Guadeloupe/ Antigua/ Monserrat/ St.Nevis/ St. Christopher/ St. Maarten - Willers zu Besuch (Willers on board)

30.03.16 (Martin)
On 23.02. came good friends from Schlichten (a small town near ur hometown) on board. We rent a car and went again to a little discovery tour in Guadeloupe. The waterfalls and rivers, such as the rain forest are fascinating and we enjoyed the refreshing bath.

On Wednesday we left the Marina Bas de Terre and sailed along the east coast to the Cousteau national park, where we anchored for the night and went swimming and snorkeling the next day. And then we liftet the anchor and sailed to Antigua.

Die Überfahrt verläuft ohne besondere Vorkommnisse......
The crossing is done without any further problems....

the doctor said, drink well on hot days

We arrived the english harbor/ Nelsons Dockyard at night and drove by some huge yachts and dropped near them the anchor.
This is a very historic place, named after the admiral Lord Horatio Nelson. In the 18th and 19th century Antigua was the most important marine base for Great Britain in the caribbean. From here they defended all the huge colonies and their cargo vessels.
During the napoleonic wars this place was the main base for Nelson.

We really like it here and so we stayed for a few days- on Friday we went to Shirley Heights (a panoramic platform) where they had a big barbecue, a steeldrumband and later a live music cover band. But to get to Shirley Heights you can take a cab or go for a walk through the forrest.

So the girls took a cab and we decided, to take this "short" walk- walking is supposed to be healthy.

But the problem was, that we took, already at the beginning, the wrong turn and so the 10-15minute walk took us an hour. And it wasn't just a walking tour, we also had to climb up rocks and walk through dry river beds. Also we only had sandals and had to walk through cactus, bushes and brushwood- it got darker and we had no idea, where we were. As we passed gravestones after a while in a distance of 50 meters, we got a little scared. But we bolstered up each other- while our woman were waiting for us on the exit and already thought about, if they had to contact an emergency troupe to find us, because it got darker and darker. Finally Micha screamed out: "here it is" and completely covered in sweat and with the last sunbeams we exit the forrest.

But as we saw the breathtaking view on the bay, everything was forgotten. And the emergency troupe had not to be contacted anymore.

Because they offered good food, we got some barbecue and drinks!!

tolle Atmosphäre
great atmosphere

Langusten - lecker
Lobsters - yummi

We really enjoyed the evening and as then the band started to play really good live music we began to dance and enjoy the great atmosphere.

On the next morning we took some traditional breakfast in the admirals Inn - and our dinghy captain brought us there.

Unser Dinghycaptain hat uns überall gut hingebracht.
Our dinghy captain brought us well to wherever we wanted to.

After we had breakfast we liked it so much, that we decided to get some cocktails right away and got served really nicely...

Pina Colada am Morgen vertreibt Kummer und Sorgen...
Pina Colada in the morning blows all your troubles away...

Leben: Genuss pur

In addition to that, we went to the island bakery and took some sweet biscuits with us....

After 3 days we lifted the anchor and sailed with the great sun and wind to Montserrat. You were able to see the Soufriere Hill from far away. 1995 this volcano erupted and destroyed  2/3 of the island. The most of the 11.000 people left the island and by now there are only 4.000 people left, that life on this island. A big part of the island, especially the south, became a restricted area. But parts of this area got opened again and so they offered some tours through this area. Plymouth since then, is a city of ghosts. The city got evacuated fast and a lot of stuff was left behind.
We dropped the anchor in little bay and enjoyed the clear water, were snorkeling and swimming and sun bathing.

We booked a tour and took a look at Plymouth and the restricted are.

Sperrgebiet - teilweise riecht man den Schwefelgeruch
Restricted area- often you have a sulfuric smell in your nose

"Geisterstadt" Plymouth
"Ghost town" Plymouth

Do you see this house? Wenn wir dann antworteten: "Yes" kam die Antwort."No, you can´t see this house, it´s behind the tree"
During the tour our guide always showed us the "hidden" houses, that were behind the trees and all the ashes and he always stopped his car and asked: "Do you see this house?". And when we answered "yes" he replied every time "No, you can't see this house, it's behind the tree".

Nicht zu  sehendes Haus...
You could never see the house...

On the next day we enjoyed the sunset and drove to the beach, to have a fire and we sang some songs, and Petra played guitar to it- it was like Robinson Crusoe- indescribable!
But also the greatest time goes by and so t´ew ifted the anchor and sailed to St. Nevis/ St. Christopher. During our sailing we caught a very nice Mahi Mahi:

Andi started to love fishing - but because he had no gun, because he is a hunter - he had to kill the fish somehow different.

Stolz "erlegt"...
Proudly "hunted"...

And the fish immediately came freshly on our plates!
We arrived late at St. Kitts and so we just took a mooring and kept sailing on really early on the next morning to St. Christopher. In the south frigate bay we dropped our anchor.
In the evening we found a great beach restaurant and our table was just 10 meters away from the water.

Der  Abend kling bei einem Cocktail aus...
And so we ended the day with another cocktail...

On the next day we went to St. Maarten, where we arrived to late in the evening for the bridge to be open, and so we had to drop the anchor and wait for tomorrow. Where we went to the Marina Port de Plaisance and had a last breakfast together in the Simpson Bay Yachtclub.

And hen we sadly had to say goodbye to our friends - sadly the time flew bye. we wish you a good "start" in the german winter...

Tschüß
